My girlfriend doesn’t like either of those shows, or anything like them. She watches anime, The Office, Dexter, and every other show that I love. My girlfriend doesn’t like Taylor Swift. She listens to classical music, she listens to metal, and she loves all the weird/Japanese bands I show her. Most importantly, she doesn’t quote lyrics in conversation as a way of communicating her feelings because she’s not 14 years old or a fucking twat. We bond because we enjoy the same things and don’t have to figure out codes to keep each other happy. My girlfriend isn’t so simplistic and common that her needs, desires, and interests can be accurately described in a small paragraph circulated around the internet, which is among the reasons I’m glad to have her and not the apparent thousands of moronic people this speaks to. We both consider ourselves lucky, we both cherish our relationship, and we consider ourselves equals in the relationship. Also, I can’t stress this enough, I’m not so fucking stupid that I need a sappy bullshit teenage girl directive to tell me I should love and take care of my significant other. I don’t know what “she” and “you” this shit describes, but it isn’t my girlfriend, it isn’t me, and thankfully it isn’t any of the people I surround myself with.
